Dear future practicing nurses,
When I first started my goal
of becoming a nurse educator, I envisioned that I would need to have the
nursing knowledge and a calm and patient personality to be an effective
teacher. I would hold conferences and lecture
to nurses and use handouts and/or an overhead projector to teach nurses
information they would need for their job.
While this is true, I have now realized that teaching is so much
more. Technology opens up so many possibilities
for teaching and learning. Because
technology is such an important part of in the everyday life of a practicing
nurse, it is important that I also use technology in my everyday life as a
practicing nurse educator to create active and meaningful learning
experiences.
There always has been and always
will be challenges in nursing, but nurses providing the best care for their
patients has not changed. Technology can
be a challenge, but it can also be an opportunity!
I started my informatics
course in college with great trepidation as I felt overwhelmed and nervous
about integrating technology in my work.
But I can honestly say that it was my favorite class, and I left the
class feeling inspired and empowered.
As your nurse educator, you
can expect me to promote professional development utilizing information
technologies. Technology is rapidly evolving
and growing and increasingly integrated into the healthcare system. I will these technologies to advance learning
and support nurses in their professional role.
Technology can enhance patient care, and I will be here to support you along
the way. I will keep up to date on
advancements in technology and the which are appropriate for our unit to
provide the best care possible to our patients. I want to inspire you to learn new skills,
just as I was inspired.
